This fluorapatite is from the Cerro de Mercado Mine, Victoria de Durango, Mun. de Durango, Durango, Mexico. This is an open pit iron mine that contains 18 different mineral species including the world famous fluorapatite crystals found there. They are associated with several other accessory minerals within some zones of the mine. Fluorapatite is a phosphate containing the elements Ca, P, O and F. This piece consists of a mixed matrix of chalcedony, quartz, and magnetite matrix (sawed on bottom) that hosts several fluorapatite crystals including an exceptional pair of twinned crystals. They are transparent with golden-yellow color and bright vitreous luster. This piece measures 3 x 2 5/8 x 1 3/8 inches or 76 x 67 x 35 mm
