This fluorapatite is from the Foote Lithium Mine, Kings Mountain MIning District, Cleveland County, North Carolina, USA. This is a large open pit operation that as the name implies is mined for the recovery of lithium. This mine contained 161 different minerals including albite and fluorapatite. This fairly large piece consists of a massive to crystalline albite matrix that contains an exposed vug or vein of deep reddish purple flurapatite crystals. The largest crystal is approximately 10 mm long. This piece measures 4 x 2 31/6 x 1 3/4 inches or 102 x 55 x 45 mm.
