Description
This fluorapatite is from the Borema Mineral Province in the Rio Grande do Norte State of Brazil. there are dozens of mines in this area and they contain almost 200 different minerals including fluorapatite. It is a phosphate mineral that contains the elements Ca, P, O and F, It is commonly found in hydrothermal veins and pegmatites. This specimen consists of a crystalline feldspar matrix that hosts tabular and barrel shaped apatite crystals as well as quartz on the display side. The crystals are translucent and have a resinous to vitreous luster. This piece measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 3/4 inches or 45 x 32 x 19 mm.
