The Katanga Copper Crescent encompasses a vast mineral rich area containing 209 different minerals. Local people work the mines for mineral specimens like this malachite. It is a carbonate containing the elements Cu, C, O and H. It is a secondary mineral found in oxidized and weathered zones of copper ore deposits.. This specimen consists entirely of malachite crystals with terminated crystals on all sides. It can be displayed from all angle. It has some malachite crystal stalactite formations also. It measures 4 1/8 x 2 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches or 105 x 70 x 57 mm. crystals on all sides.
