This ettringite is from the N’Chawaning Mine in Kurunman, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. The manganese ore fields in this area are huge and contain over seventy different minerals including the uncommon sulfate ettringite. It contains the elements Ca,Fe, S, O, B and H. This specimen consists of a vug filled crystalline matrix that has clusters of yellow ettringite crystals. This is a large thumbnail that measures 1 1/8 x 1 x 1/2 inches or 28 x 25 x 12 mm.
