Description
This ettringite is from the N’Chwaning Mine in Kurunman, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. The manganese ore fields in this area are huge and contain over seventy different minerals including the uncommon sulfate ettringite. It contains the elements Ca,Fe, S, O, B and H. This crystal is a floater crystal. It was altered and re-crystallized in the hydrothermal fluids in which it was formed after separating from its matrix. It has faceted prism faces or healed surfaces on all sides and both ends. It can be displayed vertically or horizontally. This is a large thumbnail that measures approximately 21 x 16 x 11 mm.
