Description

This epidote on quartz is from the Honquizhen Quarry in Meigu County, Liangohan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. Seven different minerals are found in this quarry and most are silcates. Epidote is a silicate that contains the elements Ca, Fe, Si, O and H, Quartz is a common mineral that contains the elements Si and O while hematite is an oxide containing Fe and O. This specimen consists of a quartz crystal plate that hosts dozens of clusters of gem-like epidote crystals. Some of the quartz crystals are milky, some are transparent and some have hematite incusions.The epidote clusters have a sheath-like appearance. All crystals have a glass luster. This piece measures 5 1/2 x 4 x 1 3/4 inches or 140 x 112 x 45.
