Description
This epidote is from Maldeen in the Ras Koh Mountains in the Kharan District, Balochistan, Pakistan. This locale contains large veins of crystalline epidote that contain vugs and exposed veins filled with crystals. Epidote is a silicate that contains the elements Ca, Al, Fe, Si, O and H. This is a cluster of large epidote crystals that display from both sides. Some crystals have dipyramidal octahedral habits and others are plate-like hexagonal crystals. They have a bright vitreous to chatoyant luster. Some surfaces host micro-titanite and magnetite crystals. It measures 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 x 1 3/8 inches or 63 x 44 x 35 mm.
