This epidote on hematic quartz is from the Honquizhen Quarry in Meigu County, Liangohan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. Seven different minerals are found in this quarry and most are silcates. Epidote is a silicate that contains the elements Ca, Fe, Si, O and H, Quartz is a common mineral that contains the elements Si and O while hematite is an oxide containing Fe and O. This specimen consists of a quartz crystal matrix that hosts clusters of epidote crystals. The quartz has reddish inclusions of hematite.The epidote is in sheath-like clusters. The crystals have a bright green and gemmy, leaf-like, appearance. Both silicates have a glass luster.This piece measures 2 1/8 x 1 3/4 x 1 inches or 5.7 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm.
