This elbaite crystal is from the Himalaya Mine at Gem Hill, Mesa Grande District, San Diego County, California, USA. This mineĀ has 77 different mineral species including elbaite. Elbaite is a type of tourmaline that contains the elements Na, Li, Al, Si, B, andĀ H. Pure crystals are colorless but it can be found in a variety of colors depending on the trace elements incorporated in the crystal lattice.This crystal is complex with a pink rubellite base, a pale green(verdelite) middle and a complex termination consisting of several terminations and secondary crystals. It is a small miniature that measures 1 1/8 x 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches or 28 x 6 x 6 mm.
