This tourmaline, variety elbaite, is from the Chia Mine, Sao Jose da Safira, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Elbaite is in the Tourmaline Group of minerals. It contains the elements Al, B, H, Li, Na, O and Si. It can be found in a variety of colors that are caused by traces of other elements in the crystal lattice. It is an elbaite tourmaline with zones of green and brown. It has a steep chisel-like termination and a glass luster. there is a book of lepidolite attached. The base is recrystallized. The piece measures 1 3/16 x 5/16 x 3/8 inches (including the lepidolite) or 30 x 8 x 9 mm. It weighs 2.4 grams.
