This dravite tourmaline is from the Pomba Pit in Serra das Egus, Brumado, Bahia, Brazil. This mine is a commercial producer of magnesite and talc however dravite and other accessory minerals, including emeralds are found there.The mine owners enforce a ban on mineral collecting that includes the miners that work there. Dravite is a silicate in the tourmaline family of minerals and it contains the elements; Na, Mg, Al, Si, O, B and H. This crystal is dark brown (almost black). It has a pyramidal termination. The luster is resinous to vitreous. The base has a healed surface. This piece measures 13/16 x 1/2 x 3/8 inches or 20 x 12 x 9 mm.
