Description
This quartz is from cavnic in Maramures County, Romania. This is a heavily mineralized area that has been mined since the middle ages. It contains over seventy different minerals including quartz and dolomite. This specimen consists of glassy, translucent to transparent, quartz crystals with deposits of dolomite and pyrite crystals. These mineral deposits are oriented one direction on the piece. Some of the smaller smokey, crystals on the lower right, have contact points which do not take away from the piece. The piece measures 3 3/4 x 3 1/2 x 1 5/8 inches or 95 x 89 x 41 mm.
