Description
This dioptase is from the Malpaso Quarry in Dumesnil, La Calera, Calera Norte District, Colon Department, Cordoba Province, Argentina. This quarry was originally worked by a cement company but is now operated only for the recovery of mineral specimens. It contains 20 different minerals including calcite and dioptase. This piece consists of a mostly calcite matrix that is topped with calcite crystals that host emerald green dioptase crystals. The dioptase are translucent under bright lighting. This piece measures 4 1/4 x 2 3/4 x 1 5/8 inches or 107 x 70 x 41 mm.
