Description
This diopside is from Chamachhu in the Haramosh Mountains of the Skardu District of Gilgit-Balistan, Pakistan. Diopside is in the Pyroxene Group of minerals and it contains the elements Ca, Mg, O, and Si. The minerals different colors are created by traces of different elements. These crystals have a rich green color which is caused by traces of the element chromium. These crystals are translucent to transparent and have a vitreous to glass luster. This is a cluster of parallel crystals with secondary crystals growing off of them.This piece measures 1 1/2 x 11/16 x 7/16 inches or 38 x 18 x 11 mm.
