Prehnite Formations with Epidote from the Kayes Region

These translucent prehnite formations are from the Kayes Region of Mali. Areas of this region have been prolific producers of these mineral specimens, for collection,  off and on for years. Diggings and small mines are operated by locale communes and villages. Prehnite is a silicate mineral and contains the elements Ca, Al, Si, O, and H. This specimen consists of ball shaped formations or botryoidal aggregates of prehnite crystals with blocky dark green epidote crystals attached  Epidote is a silicate containing the elements Ca, Al, Fe, Si O and H. This piece measures 1 7/8 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches or 47 x 38 x 32 mm
