These cuprite crystals are from the 44th Level in the second oxidation zone of the Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region of Namibia. This is an ore pipe deposit that is mined for copper lead and other metals. It is over 3000 feet deep and contains two oxidation zones. Over 300 mineral species have been identified at the mine including the copper oxide cuprite. This piece consists of a massive cuprite matrix that is topped with cuprite crystals that range in size from druse to 4mm across. There are contrasting white calcites and minor malachite and duftite on the piece also.  This piece measures 2 3/4 x 1 x 1 3/16 inches or 70 x 25 x 31 mm.
