Galena – Vee Twinned Hoppered Crystals from Dal’negorsk

These galena crystals are from Dal’negorsk, Kavalerovo mining district, Primorkiy Kray, Far Eastern Region, Russia. These This region contains nine known deposits in which 190 minerals can be found including galena. It is a sulfide containing the elements Pb and S. This specimen consists of complex skeletal or hoppered cuboctahedral galena crystals with spherical siderite deposits scattered about the piece. The galena has a twinned habit, steel-grey color and a sub-metallic luster. It is  a carbonate containing Fe, C and O. This piece can be displayed on all sides and the bottom is the former  point of attachment. The piece measures  1 11/16 x 1 1/4 x 3/4 inches or 40 x 33 x 19 mm.
