Description

This crocoite is from the famous Red Lead Mine in the Dundas mineral field, Zeehan District, Tasmania, Australia. This operation was a silver-lead mine that produced world class specimens during mining. Crocoite is a chromate that contains the elements Pb, Cr, and O. Specimens from this locale are highly sort after. This specimen consists of a crystal vien section of Crocoite crystals with some minor clay, manganese and limonite. The well defined crystals have a orange/red color and a glistening vitreous luster. This cluster measures  2 7/8 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/8 inches or 73 x 42 x 28 mm.
