Description

This crocoite is from the famous Read Lead Mine in the Dundas mineral field, Zeehan District, Tasmania, Australia. This was a silver-lead mine that produced world class crocoite specimens during mining. Specimens from this location are highly sort after. Crocoite is a chromate that contains the elements Pb, Cr, and O. This is a double sided specimen that consists of a jack-straw like crystals of crocoite, They are randomly oriented and are on the front and rear with some clay, manganese, and limonite. The well defined crystals have a bright orange/red color and a glistening vitreous luster. This piece measures 2 x 1 3/4 x 7/8 inches or 50 x 45 x 22 .
