This crocoite is from the famous Adelaide mine in the Dundas mineral field, Zeehan District, Tasmania, Australia. This operation was a silver-lead mine that produced world class specimens during mining. Crocoite is a chromate that contains the elements Pb, Cr, and O. Specimens from this locale are highly sort after. This specimen consists of a cluster of large crocoite crystals in a jack-straw type formation. The crystals have an orange-red color and a glistening vitreous luster. The longest crystal is approximately 26 mm. This piece measures approximately 1 3/4 x 1 1/16 x 5/8 inches or 45 x 26 x 16 mm
