Fluorite – Cranberry and Violet Crystals from the Okorusu Mine

These fluorites are from the Okorusu Mine in the Otjiwarongo Dist. of the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. This is an open pit operation that is most famous for the variety of¬† fluorite specimens found there. Fluorite is a halide mineral that contains the elements Ca and F. This specimen consists of a plate of interpenetrating crystals. They have a light green to clear color and contain strong cranberry colored phantoms. The type of pattern in the crystals are commonly called “checker board”. It measures 4 11/16 x 3 5/16 x 1 3/16 inches or 119 x 84 x 30 mm.
