Description
This childrenite crystal is from Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area is in the Aimores Pegmatite District and many outstanding mineral and mineral specimens are recovered and sold on the worldwide market. The famous Corrego Frio Mine, which is the type locale for brazilianite, is located here. Childrenite is a phosphates and may be found in phosphate rich pegmatites. This crystal is huge for the species. It has terminated or healed surfaces on all sides. It also has attached spherical clusters of what I believe are eosphorite crystals. The piece measures 1 3/8 x 1 3/8 x 3/4 inches or 35 x 35 x 19 mm.
