Childrenite – Euhedral Crystal from Linopolis


This piece is from Linopolis in the Doce Valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a cluster of large crystals of childrenite crystals. Some of the crystals host eosphorite crystal clusters or have partially altered to eosphorite. The primary crystals are large for the species. The piece measures 1 1/4 x 1 1/8 x 3/4 inches or 32 x 28 x 19 mm.

This childrenite crystal is from Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area is in the Aimores Pegmatite District and many outstanding mineral and mineral specimens are recovered and sold on the worldwide market. The famous Corrego Frio Mine, which is the type locale for brazilianite, is located here. Childrenite is a phosphate and may be found in phosphate rich pegmatites. This crystal is large for the species. It has a blocky eudral morphology which is also uncommon for the species as most crystals (at least for this locale) are tabular or blade-like. The piece measures 5/8 x 5/8 x 3/8 inches or 16 x 16 x 10 mm.
