Description
This chalcopyrite is from the Huaron Mining District in the Huallay District, Pasco Province, Pasco Department, Peru. This area has produced outstanding collector specimens of a variety of mineral species including chalcopyrite. Chalcopyrite is a copper sulfide that contains the elements Cu, Fe and S. This specimen consists of a quartz crystal matrix that hosts complex tetragonal chalcopyrite crystals, elongated needle quartz crystals and a small amount of pyrite and sphalerite crystals. This piece measures 3 7/8 x 2 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches or 98 x 57 x 45 mm.
