This chalcedony is from Ngabu in the Chiway-Nsanje District, Malawi. This piece is a blue chalcedony geode type formation whose core is filled with druse crystals. Both are forms of quartz and they contain the elements Si and O. Pure quartz is colorless and transparent while different varieties of quartz such as chalcedony get their wide range of colors from trace elements in the crystal lattice. This piece consists of bands of different shades of blue chalcedony and blue hued sparkling sugar-like druse quartz. It measures 2 x 1 11/16 x 1 1/2 inches or 50 x 44 x 38 mm.
