Description
This chalcanthite is from the Planet Mine, 350 foot level, Planet, Santa Maria District, Buckskin Mountains, La Paz County, Arizona, USA. The Planet Mine produced ores of iron, copper, silver and gold from 1863 to 1937. Chalcanthite is a sulfate mineral that contains the elements Cu, S, O, and H. This specimen consists of layered veins of brilliant blue translucent crystals of chalcanthite with minor altered clay matrix attached.. The crystals have different characteristics when viewed or displayed from the different sides, top and bottom. The color is saturated and electric. It is as it appears in the photos. This piece measures 1 3/4 x 1 1/4 x 3/4 inches or 45 x 32 x 20 mm.
