This celestite, celestine, is from Clay Center in Ottawa County Ohio, USA, The the quarries in this area are mined for aggregates and industrial grades of anhydrite and gypsum. There are over one dozen different mineral species associated with the mining including celestine or celestite. This is a radiating fan-like cluster of white translucent crystals. At the front of the cluster the crystals are short and they gradually increase in height toward the back row and outside edges of the piece. It measures 2 1/2 (to the tip of tallest crystal) by 2 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches or 63 x 57 x 32 mm.
