This calcite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is the main ore mineral. Calcite is a common gangue mineral associated with the sphalerite. This crystal is a double terminated and twinned crystal. It is translucent to transparent with a bright vitreous luster. There are traces of barite crystal matrix on the rear of the crystal. It measures 3 1/2 x 1 3/8 x 1 1/4 inches or 88 x 35 x 32 mm.
