This calcite crystal septarian nodule is from Muddy Creek in Orderville, Kane County, Utah, USA. This nodule or concretion was formed millions of years ago. It is called a septarian because of the partitions, cracks and separations in the formation. The core of the nodule is filled and lined with dogtooth calcite crystals. The buff or beige colored crystals contrast nicely with the grey cement-like exterior of the concretion which has been polished to a gem luster around the perimeter. This is a large cabinet sized piece that measures approximately 7 x 6 x 5 inches and it weighs over 6 pounds.
