Description
This calcite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including gangue species like calcite. It is a carbonate mineral containing the elements Ca, C and O. This specimen consists of a translucent crystal with a glass luster and a pristine termination. The base is cleaved and it was the attachment point to a sphalerite matrix. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 1 3/4 x 1 inches or 67 x 45 x 25 mm.
