This calcite crystal is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Central Tennessee Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, USA.This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including gangue species like calcite. It is a carbonate mineral containing the elements Ca, C and O. This specimen consists of a 3 1/2 inch crystal with chert and sphalerite matrix attached. It is translucent to transparent with a bright vitreous to glass luster. It has a cream to honey color. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 3 x 1 3/4 inches or 89 x 76 x 44 mm.
