This bullseye malachite stalactite slice is from Kolwezi in the Katanga province of the Congo. Stalactite and stalagmite type formations of malachite are cut perpendicular to their formation exposing their interior. The plate or piece is then polished to a gem luster. The process reveals and accentuates the different generations of malachite that were deposited in concentric bands within the formations. The patterns resemble green bullseyes or wood ring patterns. This particular slice is larger than those commonly found on the market. It also has a natural and intact (complete) exterior surface along the perimeter. It measures 3 3/8 x 2 11/16 x 5/16 inches or 86 x 69 x 8 mm. It weighs just over 1/4 pound.
