Description
This brochantite on atacamite is from the Mount Gunson District, Pernatty Lagoon, Stuart Shelf, South Australia, Australia. This area encompasses a large area that contains several deposits and ore bodies. Several mines and open pits are operated for the recovery copper and gold. The mines contain 40 different minerals including atacamite and brochantite. Atacamite is a halide and it contains the elements Cu, Cl, O and H. Brochantite is a copper sulfate containing the elements Cu,S, O and H. This specimen is made up of several attached crystalline atacamite nodules with deposits of acicular brochantite crystals on some surfaces. The piece measures 3 x 1 3/4 x 1 3/8 inches or 76 x 45 x 35 mm.
