Description
This morganite is from Conselheiro Pena in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is a large district that contains many pegmatite occurences that are mined by several well known operations as well as many smaller mines and diggings. The pegmatites contain several different gemstones including the pink gem variety of beryl called morganite. This piece is a floater crystal that has been altered in the hydrothermal fluids in which it formed. It has terminated recrystallized surfaces on all sides and is free of any matrix. The crystal is transparent and the surfaces and facets are complex with a glass luster. It measures 7/8 x 11/16 x 11/16 inches or 22 x 18 mm.
