Description
This aquamarine beryl is from the Pingwu Beryl Mine, Huya Township, Mt. Xueboading, Pingwu County, Mianyang Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. This mine is well known for its production of mineral specimens that also includes aquamarine. Aquamarine is in the beryl family which also includes emerald and heliodor. Trace elements in the crystal lattice produce the different colors. Aquamarine is the blue gem variety of beryl and it contains the elements Be,Al,Si,and O. This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that is topped with feldspar, mica and a tabular aquamarine crystals. The crystal is transparent with a glass luster. This piece measures 2 1/8 x 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches or 53 x 38 x 38 mm.
