Description
This aquamarine beryl is from Teofilo Otoni, Mucuiri Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil. This area contains 22 mineral species including aquamarine. Aquamarine is the blue gem variety of beryl and it contains the elements Be, Al, Si and O. Different colors of beryl such as aquamarine are produced when there are trace elements in the crystal lattice. This crystal has been altered, modified and recrystallized in the hydrothermal fluids in which it was created. It has terminated surfaces on all faces (a floater). The faces are lightly etched and have a bright glass luster. The color is light aqua which is hard to capture in photos. The original basal attachment point has a healed surface also.
