Description
This barite, or baryte, is from the Mianyang Prefecture in the Sichuan Province of China. This area contains over a dozen mines that contain over 70 different minerals including baryte. It is a sulfate that contains the elements Ba, S and O. This specimen consists of a plate-like formation of translucent spearhead shaped barite crystals. They have a golden/grey color and have multiple phantoms. The crystals have a resinous to vitreous luster. This piece measures 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 (tall) x 2 3/4 inches or 89 x 57 x 70 mm.
