Description
These baryte (formerly barite) crystals are from the Yaogangxian Mine, Xaogangxian W-Sn Ore Field, Tizhang, Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province of China. Tungsten and tin minerals are the primary ores extracted from multiple ore bodies in an area spanning 4 x 2.5 km. Seventy-eight different species of minerals are found there Including baryte. This piece consists of interpenetrating clusters of spike-like crystals that are all terminated and free from bruises. There is some minor pyrite matrix attached and the rear has been partially sawed or ground. This piece measures 2 5/8 x 2 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches or 67 x 70 x 45 mm.
