This barite on sphalerite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, Ba-F-Pb-Zn District, Tennessee, US. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including sphalerite which is the main ore mineral. Common gangue minerals like barite are found in pockets associated with sphalerite. This piece consists of a a plate of complex sphalerite crystals that hosts several bloom-like clusters of barite crystals and a single calcite crystal. This is a large heavy piece that piece measures 7 3/8 x 4 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches or 187 x 118 x 70 mm.
