This barite is from the Elmwood Mine in Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA. This mine contains three shafts called the Elmwood, Cumberland, and Gordonsville. It has an entry slope called the Stonewall. They contain eleven different minerals including gangue species like barite. It is a sulfate mineral that contains the elements Ba, S and O. This piece consists of a ball-like barite cluster (often called a snowball) that sits on a druse quartz covered chert matrix.  This piece measures 3 x 2 x 1 1/8 inches or 76 x 50 x 28 mm.
