Description
These barite crystals are from Cerro Warihuyn in Mira Flores, Huamalias Province, of the Huanuco Department, Peru. This area is prospected by the locals for mineral specimens and it contains five different mineral species. One of the most desirable specimens for collectors are the barite pieces. It is a sulfate containing the elements Ba, S and O. This specimen consists of a coarse grained quartz matrix that is topped with pinkish dolomite crystals and a complex cluster of barite crystals. They are all transparent, have a tabular morphology and a glass luster. It is an excellent display piece measuring 2 7/8 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 73 x 41 x 38 mm.
