Description
This barite on calcite is from the Moscona Mine in Llano de Solis, Corvera de Asturias, Villabona mining area, Asturias, Spain. Sixteen different minerals can be found at this mine including barite and calcite. Barite is a sulfate that contains the elements Ba S O and calcite is a carbonate ( Ca C O ). This specimen consists of a core of druse quartz, calcite and barite that is totally covered with rhombic calcites that in turn are mostly covered with tabular barite crystals. This piece measures 2 3/4 x 2 x 1 7/8 inches or 70 x 50 x 48 mm.
