Description
This azurite is from the Tongshan Mine in the Guichi District, Chizhou Prefecture, Anhui Province, China. This is a copper-gold deposit that contains almost 30 different minerals including the attractive azurite malachite combinations for which it is known. Azurite and malachite are copper carbonates that contain the elements Cu, C, O and H. This piece consists of a mixed matrix of azurite and malachite with minor oxides. The matrix is full of vugs and exposed veins of euhedral azurite and fibrous malachite crystals that display nicely on the display side This piece measures 6 1/2 x 3 x 3 3/4 inches or 164 x 76 x 98 mm. It is a heavy piece that weighs over 2 pounds.
