This azurite is from the Tongshan Mine in the Guichi District, Chizhou Prefecture, Anhui Province, China. This is a copper-gold deposit that contains almost 30 different minerals including the attractive azurite malachite combinations for which it is known. Azurite and malachite are copper carbonates that contain the elements Cu, C, O and H. This piece consists of a mixed matrix of azurite, malachite and small pieces of breccia quartz that is covered on the display side with dozens of well defined blocky crystals of azurite on a matte of velvet malchite. It measures 2 3/4 x 2 3/8 x 1 1/2 inches or 70 x 67 x 39 mm.
