This azurite is from the Morenci Mine, Morenci, Copper Mountain District, Shannon Mountains, Greenlee County, Arizona, USA. Azurite is a carbonite mineral found in oxidation zones of copper bearing ore bodies. It is commonly associated with malachite. It contains the elements C, Cu, H and O. This piece consists of a breccia quartz matrix that has an exposed seam or vug that is filled with azurite crystals. The bladed crystals form accicular, ball-like, clusters within the seam.They have a Prussian blue color and a vitreous luster. This piece measures  2 1/4 x 1 13/16 x 7/8 inches or 57 x 44 x 22 mm.
