Mining at this locale began in 2006 with the extraction of copper minerals. Thirty-six mineral species have been identified at the mine including world class azurites. It is a secondary copper carbonate containing the elements Cu, C and O. Mining started in several copper oxide zones where the carbonate minerals including azurite were found. This specimen consists of a sharp, fin-like, primary crystal with small secondary crystals scattered on the faces. There is some minor tuff and malachite matrix attached. The azurite has an excellent color and luster and the piece is good from all sides. It measures 1 1/4 x 1 1/16 x 5/8 inches or 3.2 x 2.6 x 1.6 cm.
