Description
These azurite crystals are from the Milpillas Mine in Cuitaca, Mun.de Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. Mining at this locale began in 2006 with the extraction of copper minerals. Thirty-six mineral species have been identified at the mine including world class azurites. It is a secondary copper carbonate containing the elements Cu, C and O. Mining started in several copper oxide zones where the carbonate minerals including azurite were found. This specimen consists of a breccia tuff matrix that hosts an attractive display of crystals.The largest crystal is double terminated with complex multiple terminations. It measures approximately one inch in length. The crystals have a cobalt-blue color and a vitreous luster. The piece is undamaged with former, natural, attachment points on the side and rear as shown in photos. It measures 2 x 1 3/8 x 1 1/4 inches or 50 x 35 x 32mm.
