Description
This azurite is from the Tongshan Mine in the Guichi District, Chizhou Prefecture, Anhui Province, China. This is a copper-gold deposit that contains almost 30 different minerals including the attractive azurite malachite combinations for which it is known. Azurite and malachite are copper carbonates that contain the elements Cu, C, O and H. This piece consists of geode-like formations of crystalline malachite whose exposed cavities are filled with large (for the locale) azurite crystals. It measures 4 3/4 x 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches or 120 x 70 x 64 mm.
