These azurite crystals are from the Milpillas Mine in Cuitaca, Mun.de Santa Cruz, Sonora, Mexico. Mining at this locale began in 2006 with the extraction of copper minerals. Thirty-six mineral species have been identified at the mine including world class azurites. It is a secondary copper carbonate containing the elements Cu, C and O. Mining started in several copper oxide zones where the carbonate minerals including azurite were found. This specimen consists of a plate-like cluster of various sized azurite crystals with some minor malachite attached. This piece measures 1 916 x 1 x 9/16 inches or 40 x 25 x 14 mm.
